Pale

After the icy rain, tremulous sunshine. A long bare branch trails across the pale sky, sways slowly in the breeze. Motion sickness. Not really surfacing this morning, just peering at the world around the edge of the ungraspable. The laptop needs a new battery, and that's what I need too - scoop out the hardened sludge and slot in a new energy source. If only. We treat ourselves and each other as if we were machines, but renewal is more complicated and uncertain.

And everyone has a different adapter.

I do think things become more hopeful after the solstice (this year in Britain, 22 December, 5.30 am - I looked it up!), after we've been through the December tunnel of almost static dark evenings. By about 6 January the evenings get lighter more quickly and colours become more vibrant.

All very best wishes for 2012.

Beautiful tree. If only we could renew ourselves like they do every spring.

Beautiful photo, and I'm feeling like I need a new battery too.

Renewal happens in inches ... so slowly ... with the sip of a good Port shared with friends ... with each bubble rising from a fermentation ... with a smile from a colleague who has achieved the first part of her dream ... wishing you moments of renewal in the upcoming Year of the Dragon!
