Feedback?

New design. I loved the elegant simplicity of the previous one, but it fatally lacked a sidebar - so no links, no blogroll. This here happened on the spur of the moment when I desperately needed to be engaged in doing other things, but you know how the brain gets hold of a frantic obsession sometimes and kind of goes off on its own... It suddenly seemed imperative to redesign my blog. I'll probably change it again, and obviously I haven't yet compiled the sidebar links. I need to get into the code and make the photos bigger - almost certainly beyond me. Anyway, comments welcome.

I like your new header and think it still looks 'elegantly simple'. Must be something about spring that makes us want to redecorate, hmm?

I like it very much! And am delighted to see that you added a photo of yourself.

Yes, I like it very much, including that very elegant photo of yourself.

We don't have to stay with the same surroundings forever, even when we like them, when it's so easy to make a change.

The post on spring was beautiful too.

Lovely. Spacious and bright. Love the picture of you, too.

Geez, I don't know. Just like most of the folks who commented on my new design, I was used to the old one! But I definitely understand the desire to add links in some form. Have you thought about a 2- or 3-column bottombar, instead? I don't know how easy that would be to hack in - I kind of forget how Blogger works - but maybe you can find a free skin. Google "blogger skins" and "Blogger templates" and you can find a lot of stuff (90% of which is crap, of course), e.g.

This header is growing on me, though.

Thanks everyone! and especially Dave for expressing reservations. I just don't have the time or the aptitude to get into tampering too much with the standard range of templates - this lack of time or aptitude is also why I don't move to Wordpress. So it has to be a something within the standard options. I think I need to move this back to sidebar on right-hand side - there is too much white space between sidebar and posts this way round, and it also shows up the fact that the left-hand end of the banner doesn't quite line up with the left-hand side of the text below (not my fault).

Well, right-hand sidebars are my preference, too (obviously), but I didn't want to make a criticism of it because it's a very personal choice - top WordPress theme developers still quarrel about which is better - and some blog designs with left-hand sidebars look great (cassandra pages, for example). At a more practical level, I'm told that without some fancy coding to instruct them otherwise, search engines will index the left column first.

Oh, this is spacious! It's like walking into an open floor-plan apartment - lots of sun and flowing space. :-) I quite like it.

It's clean and bright, and it uses a lot of the screen vertically, which I like.

I like it!

I like it. Clean, simple, spacious, minimal but not clinical. Nice pic of you too.

I have been away from reading blogs for awhile - so busy in so many different ways. I like this format - it feels clear. It makes me realize just how "busy" my blog feels to me...

Getting rid of blog rolls feels a bit like shedding baggage ...
