Darkness almost falls

On Clapham Common at dusk: just above our heads, the spreading trees hold up the heavy purple sky with their bare arms - without them it would fall.

A stone for the river.

Your description of darkness "falling" is wonderful. I can picture the scene.

Strange, strange, Jean. Just around the corner on Balham Common, I used to believe exactly that as a toddler looking through the sitting room window of our flat!
