Would Barthes have been a digital photographer?

Grafton Street, Dublin

"I am not a photographer, not even an amateur photographer:
too impatient for that: I must see right away what I have produced."
Roland Barthes, in La chambre claire / Camera Lucida, 1980

:-) I suspect so. I love the -- how do you say? tangentiality? of these two figures.

I love the composition and color in this photo -- and yes, what Dale said. Barthes would have had quite the fun with digital photography!

Barthes wrote one of the worst books I ever read about Japan. Unfortunately, that's also the only book of his I've read.

Great photo!

I haven't read anything by him, but I recently came across a quote from him about how one had to sweat in the 'kitchen of meaning' to produce anything worthwhile. Which rather contradicts his claim of his own impatience...

But it certainly explains what a wonderful gift and revelation digital photography is for so many of us doesn't it?

What you are doing here now is so marvellous...
