Thanks for the tip, Jean. I've yet to try out the postal poetry thing, but if it turns out to be really easy (may also try out Dave's suggestion), I'll attempt it. When I have time and half a brain left in that free time.
I haven't tried PikNik, but Picasa is certainly really easy. You just click where you want to start typing, choose font and size in the usual way, and you can move the writing around as you do it, or close the file and go back to it and still move it around and change it.

Good tip, Jean. We're also now recommending the online photo editor Picnik for people who want something really easy.

Hanna, the advantage with doing this on the computer is that no unique original photo is irrevocably altered. I would not want to do that.
