Antidote to overstimulation

amazing
how something
so plain pleases

how

drawn I
am to this

quiet

angularity and
its matching shadows

I

imagine myself
pulling up a

chair

and laying
my head on

the

table top
rubbing my hot

cheek

on the
cool white surface

before

I pick
up my pen

and

write only
small smooth words

I like this table and its shadows

Hmm, I wonder if having such a desk would make one write small smooth words...

I just know I could finish my PhD on that...

Hello Anna. How nice to hear from you again!

The table is in a Buddhist retreat centre and I'm sure it has absorbed the surrounding atmosphere of peaceful silence.

I wish I was like that.

Jean: thanks for the welcome! I'm still a regular lurker on your blog. Still trying to meditate and write dissertation regularly. Still looking to change my default :-)

Jean - may I reproduce this poem in the Best of New Writing blog I also run? The next edition is out tomorrow (sorry for short notice) and I would love to be able to include it.

Litlove, of course I'd be hugely delighted to feature in your 'best of' list, if it's not too late! I couldn't find an email address on your blog.
